Have a Heart Pet Fair & Adoption Event

    Friends of Animal Services
    • When: October 17, 2009 12pm – 4pm
    • Where: Pasco County Animal Services
19640 Dogpatch Lane, Land O Lakes
    • Why: Raise funds for heartworm treatment for shelter
    • What: Pet related venders and coupon toward adoption of animals that day

The Have a Heart Pet Fair will help raise funds to purchase medication for shelter pets that arrive with heartworms and the monthly preventative treatment. The medication is very expensive and this will help with any budgeting shortages so more animals will have an opportunity for treatment.

The Adoption Event is to encourage more people to adopt shelter pets. The sponsors will pay the first $10 towards adopting an animal during the event.

Rescue dogs have stories. Rescue dog people have stories, some worse than others.
A phone call early am, the voice on the other end in a panic, asked if I would take this wonderful dog.
I am slow to wake up, while trying to figure out the game players. Who? The voice, from Citrus Animal Services, the dog, the owner. What and where? The lobby of animal services, owner crying, not wanting to surrender her dog. This is where I come in. . Heart broken, all of us, the owner, dog and myself, now in my kitchen, two hours later. This was one of those small miracles that happen as a whisper.
I never answer the phone that early, I am not the one listed as a contact for Lab Rescue, and that day I didn't have a car. For some reason, I was contacted. For some reason, I picked up the phone. Perhaps it was good that I didn't have a car that day. Welcome, Milk Dud and owner. She will be living, in someone's home, my home.
I am glad that I was there for all of us. I could have said no. A bittersweet story.
Another black dog. She is sweet. Not stressed anymore. Affectionate. Has manners.

    She's 9, and divine.

Here they are, my dogs and my new foster dog, Milk Dud. Milk Dud is the first stressed dog you see in the video. Along the fence, Jet, Milk Dud, and Annabelle growling up the rear.

Milk Dud's video and profile is on Petfinder through Labrador Retriever Rescue of Florida

Thank you to Pat Bayers, with Lab Rescue. The calmest, common sense thinker in the middle of the group, that always says "yes".

    Tuesday, June 30, 2009

Who is Meg Frost? What is this Cute Overload? For the last two years my son has been emailing cute animal pictures with out of this world funny captions. Meg Frost is the creator of www.CuteOverload.com Her idea and captions have captured what fans of the site and calendars call themselves "cuteologists". Beyond cute, with it's own glossary and rules for cuteness it sure keeps me coming back for more Muzzlepowsche's (the adorable pouch that holds cheeks and whiskers), and looking for "small ear to head ratio", which is rule #15.

I am hooked, squee (head imploding under the sheer unbearable burden of Cute Overload involuntary and audible only to dogs)

    See you there!

    Friday, June 26, 2009

    From “By Dark:”

When it is time I follow the black dog

into the darkness that is the mind of day

I can see nothing there but the black dog

the dog I know is going ahead of me

not looking back oh it is the black dog

I trust now in my turn after the years

when I had all the trust of the black dog

through an age of brightness and through shadow

on into the blindness of the black dog

where the rooms of the dark were already known

and had no fear in them for the black dog

leading me carefully up the blind stairs

    Follow the black dog

    Irene D. Nodell

    December 12, 1921 - April 20, 2009

He has taken us out of the power of darkness and has made it possible for us to join the saints and with them to inherit the light. Look towards him and be radiant, let your faces not be abashed.
